10 years ago, I began renting out my first house. Then I acquired a few more homes. I realized that there was nothing made to help people like me rent their homes out to vacationers. I was on advertising sites, but became frustrated by their limitations. I wanted to have a destination where renters could go and see everything in one place. I wanted to be able to have as many photos as I chose and display the information in a way that helped me get more bookings, instead of just inquiries. I wanted all of my accounting to be coordinated with my inquiries, bookings and calendar.
   
So I decided to get a website. As I looked into it, I realized that I would have to figure out what would make it successful in the vacation rental industry. The designers didn't know that's for sure. They knew how to make a pretty website, but it was not useful for me to use or most importantly for people to use when searching for a vacation rental. I knew that there needed to be specific information displayed in a way that was easy for a potential renter to find and view. I also knew that I could not afford to hire a designer every time I wanted to change the text or pictures each time on my website.
   
After much experimentation and literally thousands of dollars later, I have a website that showcases my homes to potential renters and also allows me to update my website as I need to. I have learned that it is so important to keep your website up to date, with photos, rates and calendars. These little details make all the difference in converting inquiries into actual bookings.
   
When I first started renting out my vacation homes, I did not realize how much time it took to make reservations and keep my accounting straight.
